Over the course of the past year, Universidad Popular has been hard at work within the California Jobs First - Southern Border Coalition project. The coalition covers the San Diego and Imperial counties and Universidad Popular serves as one of the five co-conveners on the project. The coalition aims to foster long-term economic resilience across San Diego and Imperial Counties and coordinates competitive applications for additional funding from the state government.

Fifty individuals were elected in January of 2024, to lead diverse sectors across both counties. In 2024, the Southern Border Coalition published the Regional Report Part 1 and Part 2, which are the foundational documents that will guide economic and workforce development in the region for the next ten years. As co-conveners, Universidad Popular worked closely with sector leads to engage their communities and gather feedback on the draft regional reports, ensuring they are represented as we move along this process. Throughout the months of April to September of 2024, Universidad Popular supported in convening 18 sector meetings, engaging over 500 members of the San Diego community to participate in the Planning phase of the project.

Now that the Regional Report Part 2 has been shared with the public, we have a clear blueprint for the next decade of work. Universidad Popular is committed to implementing this vision by advancing high-road, green, and accessible career pathways that benefit our communities. As we begin the Implementation phase, we will focus on funding and launching projects that align with these goals, ensuring that our region’s workforce and economy thrive in a sustainable and inclusive way. Durante el último año, Universidad Popular ha trabajado arduamente en el proyecto California Jobs First - Coalición Fronteriza Sur. La coalición abarca los condados de San Diego e Imperial, y Universidad Popular es uno de los cinco co-organizadores del proyecto. La coalición tiene como objetivo fomentar la resiliencia económica a largo plazo en los condados de San Diego e Imperial y coordina solicitudes competitivas para obtener fondos adicionales del gobierno estatal. 

Cincuenta personas fueron elegidas en enero de 2024 para liderar diversos sectores en ambos condados. En 2024, la Coalición Fronteriza Sur publicó el Informe Regional Parte 1 y Parte 2, documentos fundamentales que guiarán el desarrollo económico y laboral en la región durante los próximos diez años. Como co-organizadores, Universidad Popular colaboró estrechamente con los líderes de sector para involucrar a sus comunidades y recopilar comentarios sobre los borradores de los informes regionales, asegurándose de que estuvieran representados a medida que avanzamos en este proceso. Entre abril y septiembre de 2024, Universidad Popular contribuyó a la convocación de 18 reuniones sectoriales, involucrando a más de 500 miembros de la comunidad de San Diego en la fase de planificación del proyecto.

Ahora que la Parte 2 del Informe Regional se ha compartido con el público, contamos con un plan claro para la próxima década de trabajo.
